Takeaway update - 25 May 2020
After extensive consultation with the Chief Public Health Officer, the State Coordinator has reviewed earlier restrictions imposed on wineries, cellar doors, breweries and distilleries.
Wineries, cellar doors, breweries and distilleries are aligned with restrictions that are currently in place for hotels, restaurants and similar businesses. This means wineries, cellar doors, breweries and distilleries are able to provide alcohol, food or other products on a take away basis from the premises.
Venues can now also seat up to 20 patrons (10 inside and 10 outside), provided they comply with all conditions of their liquor licence, as appropriate. All food and beverages must be served to customers seated at a table, and alcohol can only be served for consumption with a meal.
Social distancing restrictions for people attending wineries, cellar doors, breweries and distilleries remain unchanged and must be complied with.
Takeaway and delivery
In light of rapidly changing circumstances around Australia, governments at all levels are continuing to adopt measures to not only respond to the threat posed by coronavirus (COVID-19), but also support those businesses that may be experiencing difficulties as a result.
Given the challenges facing the hospitality sector, a number of measures are being considered that can help these businesses trade through what are clearly trying circumstances.
The government has agreed to provide free short-term licences to those licensees operating a small bar, cafe, restaurant or community club to allow for the sale of takeaway liquor.
Existing licensees are now able to apply for these short-term licences.
Under the conditions of these temporary licences, restaurants, residential, small venues, local clubs and on-premises licence holders that operate like a restaurant or small bar can sell up to two bottles of wine or one bottle or wine and a six pack of beer, cider or pre-mixed spirits with any meal purchased for takeaway or delivery.
In addition, clubs will be able to sell any liquor for takeaway to club members.
Clubs will also be able to sell alcohol to any member of the public purchasing a takeaway meal. But this will be limited to two bottles of wine or one bottle of wine and a six pack of beer, cider or pre-mixed spirits.
These temporary measures will be in place for the same period that the Emergency Management Act and Public Health Acts are being utilised in this unprecedented pandemic.
