Changes to historical unclaimed bond money. Unclaimed bonds, older than 15 months from the last claim date, are eligible for transfer to the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).  Bonds transferred to Treasury display an 'Unclaimed Treasury' status and the money transferred will appear on Treasury's Register of Unclaimed Money. If you are contacted by CBS to collect unclaimed bond money, you will be able to check the information we send to you via the CBS Bond Status Search. If you are unsure if the email or text you have received is from CBS, always contact CBS directly.

Issues with unclaimed bonds

A rental bond can become unclaimed for a range of reasons, such as:

  • if your have not provided banking details to CBS Bonds
  • if you have not cashed the refund cheque which CBS sent to your last known address.

If you have an unclaimed bond you may contact CBS to reclaim that money.

Searching for an unclaimed bond - information for tenants 

To check if you have an unclaimed bond, visit the CBS Bond Status Search and search the bond or guarantee number, or the address of the property rented.

If an unclaimed bond exists for you in the status of 'Unclaimed', you will be given the option to retrieve the funds to your nominated bank account. Refunds can take around 3-5 business days to process.
