What is the DVS?

The Commonwealth Government’s Document Verification Service (DVS) is a secure national system accessed by Consumer and Business Services (CBS) to verify, or check, documents with the official record holder.

Your rights

You need to agree that you are authorised to provide the personal information for ID checks and we can use the DVS for this.

If you do not agree, you will need to supply identity documents certified by a Justice of the Peace. We will manually check them instead. This may affect service and processing times.

More information

See the Commonwealth Identity Verification Services website (external site) (external site) (external site) (external site).

How CBS uses it

We use the DVS to confirm that information on an identity document matches the original record.

Information is only submitted to the DVS with your agreement and only used to provide requested services.

Information is retained for as long as legally required.

We will not share information with third parties unless legally required, or you agree. CBS staff are trained in privacy and security requirements using the DVS.

CBS must comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Information Privacy Principles Instructions (SA) when checking documents.

Feedback or complaint?

Contact CBS using the customer feedback form.

Want to change your DVS agreement?

Complete the 'Your DVS consent' section on this printable DVS factsheet and provide it to the appropriate team using Contact CBS. Note: Form can be downloaded and completed electronically.
