South Australia's alcohol delivery laws are to be transformed after the state's parliament passed the nation-first initiatives on 15 September 2026.

The Bill was introduced in response to South Australia's Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence as a step to improve safety and reduce harm.

When in operation, same day delivery of alcohol will be restricted to between 10am and 10pm, and there will be a minimum two-hour safety pause between the placing of any liquor order and its delivery.

Amendments to the liquor law's intent will also change, to prioritise the minimisation of harm, as well as potential harm, caused by excessive or inappropriate alcohol consumption.

Consumer and Business Services will work with industry bodies to understand the steps required before updated laws can start. This will enable the industry to transition its systems and processes as well as train staff.
