BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register (BetStop) for online gambling  – was launched on 21 August 2023 by the Australian Government.

BetStop is the final measure of the National Consumer Protection Framework (NCPF) for online wagering to be implemented. The NCPF is an agreement between the Commonwealth of Australia and States and Territories of Australia which aims to reduce the harm of online wagering to Australian wagering customers.

Anyone is able to self-exclude from all licensed interactive wagering services for a minimum of three months and up to a lifetime by visiting BetStop.gov.au.

The service is free, quick and easy to use and your personal details will be protected.

If you self-exclude, wagering providers will be required to close all your betting accounts and must not:

  • let you place a bet
  • let you open a new account
  • send you marketing messages.

For more information regarding BetStop, including frequently asked questions, please visit BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register: FAQs or contact the Australian Communications and Media Authority by email at info@acma.gov.au.

Information for Gambling Providers

Despite the commencement of BetStop, obligations for gambling providers in South Australia remain unchanged.  This means, for example, that if someone approaches a gambling provider and requests self-exclusion, the gambling provider is still required to bar the person in accordance with the barring process set in the Gambling Administration Act 2019.  Information about the obligations of gambling providers has been emailed to all gambling providers who provide an online and/or telephone service.

If you are a gambling provider and have any questions, or have not received correspondence from CBS regarding BetStop, please email gamblingadministration@sa.gov.au.
