Processing times begin when a complete application is lodged with Births, Deaths and Marriages, including required copies of identification.

Estimated processing times do not include Australia Post delivery time or any applicable cooling-off period.

Registrations

For a new registration of a:

  • Birth
  • Death
  • Marriage
  • Change of name
  • Change of sex or gender
  • Relationship 

This also includes applications to correct a registration.

For applications for a certificate of an existing registration of a:

Also includes applications for a commemorative certificate for a birth, marriage or relationship.

If you have an existing application and need the certificate urgently, you can upgrade your application to priority service for an additional $48.50.
