Most South Australian’s taking up new residential tenancies since 1 April 2023 have had their bond payment reduced from a maximum of six-weeks’ rent to four.

This reduces tenant's upfront costs by between $500 and $1,600, depending on the amount of rent they are paying.

The cost reduction applies for new residential tenancy agreements commencing after 1 April 2023 with a rental charge of $800 or less per week.

A tenancy renewal or extension is not considered a new lease agreement.
